Netflix Goes To Venice With ‘Our Souls At Night’ Starring Robert Redford & Jane Fonda
Taking some serious lumps from the industry at the Cannes Film Festival hasn’t scared off Netflix from keeping a presence on the prestige festival circuit. Come what may, the streaming service are getting their bags packed and gearing up for Venice.
Netflix will be bringing “Our Souls At Night” starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda to Italy for its World Premiere, where it will screen out of competition. Based on the novel by Kent Haruf, and directed by Ritesh Batra (“The Lunchbox“), the story is set in Colorado and begins when Addie Moore pays an unexpected visit to a neighbor, Louis Waters Her husband died years ago, as did his wife, and in such a small town they’d been neighbors for decades, but had little contact. Their children live far away and they are all alone in their big houses. She seeks to establish a connection, and make the most of the rest of the time they have.
While Netflix’s last big splash at Venice was with the awards-contender “Beasts Of No Nation,” this film seems more in the crowd-pleaser vein, and will make a nice accompaniment to the ceremony that will see Redford and Fonda receive the Golden Lion lifetime achievement from the fest.
No word yet on when “Our Souls At Night” will hit Netflix. [Variety]
