Movie News: ‘The Conjuring’ Writers Tapped for Next ‘Die Hard’; Jeff Goldblum Offers His Own Marvel Team-up Idea

Live Free or Die Hard

Die Hard: Will the next installment in the venerable Die Hard franchise take a turn for the spooky? Chad and Carey Hayes, best known for The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2, have been hired to write a new version of the screenplay for an untitled Die Hard film. Bruce Willis will reprise his role as the heroic John McClane and Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard, above) will direct. Rumor has it that the film will be an origin story, with a younger actor portraying McClane in the 1970s and Willis appearing in the modern day. [The Tracking Board]

Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok: Evidently Jeff Goldblum really enjoyed his supporting role as Grandmaster in Thor: Ragnarok (above), because he already has his own ideas for future Marvel team-ups. He says: “In the comic books, the character of the Grandmaster is the brother of The Collector, played by Benicio del Toro, who I adore. So I would enjoy doing something with him. That would be fun.” [Toronto Sun]

The Good Liar: Helen Mirren (above in Winchester) and Ian McKellen will star in The Good Liar. The thriller is based on a novel by Nicholas Searle about a longtime con artist who falls for a wealthy widow he intended to swindle. Bill Condon will direct; this will mark the fourth collaboration between him and McKellen, including Gods and Monsters, Mr. Holmes and last year’s Beauty and the Beast. [THR]

Rampage Video: Dwayne Johnson shared a new, self-aware video for Rampage that pokes gentle fun at the star while also showcasing the giant-animal sequences that form the heart of the big-screen video game adaptation. The action-adventure will open in theaters on April 11. [Instagram/YouTube]
