Michael Bay & Mark Wahlberg Say They’re Both Done With ‘Transformers’
There are few directors who have cried wolf as frequently as Michael Bay. Following “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” and “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” the director declared he was done smashing robots together, and was ready to pass the torch, only to return and make another entry in the franchise. But after “Transformers: The Last Knight” he swears he’s done. For real. Honestly.
“These movies that I’ve done, they are massive movies. They take a lot out of you,” Bay told Fandango. “I’ve done it enough, and I’ve had a great time doing it. I’m going out with a bang on this one, and I feel like you gotta go out while you’re ahead, you know. I think I’ve had a good run, and I’ve got a lot of other movies I want to do.”
Again, we’ve heard this over and over, so we’ll see if Bay can actually let the reins go and allow someone else the privilege of getting hundreds of millions of dollars to tell the next chapter in the Optimus Prime saga. Or if Paramount agains drives a big truck full of money to his doorstep. However, perhaps fuelling Bay’s decision is that star Mark Wahlberg is also saying goodbye after two films.
“It’s the last one so I get my life back!” the actor said on “The Graham Norton Show” (via Digital Spy).
“Transformers: The Last Knight” opens on June 21st and it may or may not be the last time you’ll see Bay and Wahlberg rolling with robots.
