First Look: Jason Momoa Is On Land In ‘Aquaman’
For a character named Aquaman, the superhero sure is spending a lot of time on land. In “Justice League,” we got some murky, kinda poorly shots scenes of the Jason Momoa swimming around his undersea kingdom, but for the most part, he was kicking ass on land. Now, in this standalone movie “Aquaman,” our first real look at the hero finds him walking through some kind power plant hallway or something (plus, who is that armored dude behind him?).
Of course, Aquaman is still damp, and naturally, jacked and tattooed up. However, director James Wan promises something stylistically unique from what we’ve seen in the Zack Snyder-helmed DCEU pictures so far.
“It’s going to look very different, it will feel very different — aesthetically, tonally, story-wise — it’s my own take,” he told EW. “It’s a much more a traditional action-adventure quest movie.” Also, his underwater scenes will find an easier way to show people communicating:
But Wan isn’t unaware that many think pulling off “Aquaman” is impossible. In fact, that’s part of the challenge — he turned down the opportunity to direct “The Flash,” to make this movie.
“Aquaman has been the joke of the comic book world, but the more I thought about it, the more I thought how cool that would be,” the director said. “Let’s take the character everybody makes fun of and do something really interesting with him.”
“Aquaman” opens on December 21, 2018.
