Exclusive Clip from ‘Ghost Stories’ Sees Martin Freeman Find Something Spooky In the Nursery
Ghosts, ghouls, and maybe some kind of goat creature come calling in IFC’s new horror anthology.
We really don’t get enough horror anthologies these days as even the lesser ones typically manage some genre fun as they shift between tales of terror. IFC Midnight is entering the fray in a big way this month with the acclaimed UK release, Ghost Stories.
The film comes courtesy of British TV vets Jeremy Dyson & Andy Nyman, and it centers on a famed debunker of the paranormal who’s tasked with disproving three horrific brushes with the beyond. Martin Freeman stars in the third tale as a man who shares the terrifying memory of what happened after the unfortunate birth of his first child. It’s the section of the film that brings the whole together into one frightening experience, and we’ve got an exclusive clip featuring Freeman’s character spending time in a totally not at all creepy nursery.
Check out the clip below.
The clip is a fine example of the film’s sense of misdirection as it draws your attention one way before delivering a scare elsewhere on screen. The movie does something similar on a grander scale that adds to the chilling fun. Horror movies have been making a splash recently with the likes of A Quiet Place and The Strangers: Prey at Night — although you jokers did sleep on Pyewacket — so hopefully genre fans will give this delightful creepfest a go later this month.
The film’s official synopsis is below.
“Experience three spine-tingling tales of terror to haunt your dreams. A debunker of all things paranormal, Professor Phillip Goodman (Andy Nyman) has devoted his life to exposing phony psychics and fraudulent supernatural shenanigans on his own television show. His skepticism is put to the test, however, when he receives a file of three chilling, inexplicable cases: a night watchman (Paul Whitehouse) haunted by disturbing visions as he patrols an abandoned asylum; an edgy young man (Black Mirror’s Alex Lawther) involved in a hellish car accident deep in the woods; and a wealthy former banker (Black Panther’s Martin Freeman) visited by the poltergeist spirit of his unborn child. Even scarier: each of the these macabre stories seems to have a sinister connection to Professor Goodman’s own life. Will they make a believer of him yet?”
Ghost Stories arrives in limited theatrical release and on VOD starting April 20th.
