Danny Boyle’s Music-Themed Comedy With Lily James and Kate McKinnon Nabs Release Date

As far back as 2010, Academy Award-winning filmmaker Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, above) talked about his desire to make a full-fledged, original musical. In 2016, he was touted to direct a film version of the popular stage musical Miss Saigon, though that didn’t work out.

Last month came word that he was teaming with writer Richard Curtis (Love, Actually) to make a music-themed comedy, reportedly set in the 1960s or 1970s. Now we hear that the film is moving full steam ahead and has secured a theatrical release date.

It’s still not titled, but Variety reports that the movie will open in theaters on September 13, 2019, via Universal Studios. Boyle plans to start shooting the film by early summer. The cast is also shaping up nicely; Lily James, Himesh Patel and…
