‘Atlanta Robbin’ Season’ Trailer: Donald Glover’s Gotta Eat

I am always excited for any Donald Glover project, and I am especially excited for “Atlanta” to return. Glover’s involvement in some small movie called “Solo: A Star Wars Story” halted production for season two, but thankfully, the next batch of episodes is almost upon us!

The show’s first season burst onto screens all the way back in 2016 and took television by storm. FX renewed it for a second season after two weeks on the air. It swept up awards left and right, critics adored it, and Glover became the first African-American to win an Emmy for directing a comedy series. FX had been tight-lipped on season two, but a longer synopsis has now emerged:

In Atlanta Robbin’ Season, two cousins work through the Atlanta music scene in order to better their lives and the lives of their families. “Earn Marks” (Donald Glover) is a young manager trying to get his cousin’s career off the ground. “Alfred Miles” (Brian Tyree Henry) is a new hot rapper trying to understand the line between real life and street life. “Darius” (Lakeith Stanfield) is Alfred’s right-hand man and visionary. “Van” (Zazie Beetz) is Earn’s best friend and the mother of Earn’s daughter.

At the show’s TCA panel in January, Glover revealed that the show would be returning with a new name: “Atlanta Robbin’ Season.” Executive producer and writer (and brother to Donald) Stephen Glover spoke about the meaning behind the new name. “Robbin’ season is the time before Christmas in Atlanta where there’s more criminal activity than normal because it’s about to be Christmas time, it’s the end of the year, there are a lot of people with gifts, there’s a lot of robberies going on because people have nice stuff at the time or trying to make money for Christmas or during that end of the year period, kind of like a vibe in Atlanta during that time,” he said.

Donald Glover later mentioned to Billboard that “our characters are going through insane, desperate transitions so ‘Robbin’ Seaso’n is kind of a metaphor for all of our characters.”

Brian Tyree Henry, Lakeith Stanfield, Zazie Beetz, and Glover are all reprising their roles for the second season.

“Atlanta Robbin’ Season” is back on FX on March 1st.
